My love for fashion started at a very young age, watching parents dress up in outfits from different eras intrigued me deeply. My upbringing shaped my taste for luxury as my parents were experts in the fine jewelry business. They instilled a strong core value of “quality over quantity” which I consistently deliver in my work.
Through extensive travel and living in different countries while growing up, I was exposed to a wide variety of arts, fashion, and cultures. With an artistic background, I understood the importance of business to be better equipped as a designer. I chose to pursue a fashion design degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and jewelry design at the acclaimed Gemological Institute of America. To further understand the business aspect of the fashion industry, I earned a MBA at the New York University.
I started my career in marketing and e-commerce with prestigious brands like Gucci and Victoria’s Secret. However, it was my desire to create something from scratch that fully expressed my creativity, which led me to pursue design and product development at DKNY, Gap Inc.,Magaschoni, Rent the Runway and Macy’s.
“Mix” is who I am in the LGBTQ community. It was not considered normal in a traditional Chinese society growing up and it is still tough today. I always strive to express myself freely via fashion and beauty to create images to inspire others and not to conform to the norm. I never believe anyone should dress based on the norm in order to fit in, especially for our modern day women. Nowadays, women do not want to live in the past and its antiquated ideology, their life is multifaceted and independent. I want people to feel empowered and know it’s ok to be “you”. You can still look chic and unique without compromising.
I always inject my passion for mixing softness and structure, pattern and texture, fluidity and architectural cuts into design with modernized references of the past. It’s all about balancing sexy femininity and edgy masculinity. I like to build the images around my belief that women can look effortlessly chic while embracing mixed elements. I strive to offer the quality workmanship and sophisticated metropolitan style at an attainable price point for modern women.
